Headteachers in the Nanumba South District of the Northern Region have given their District Director of Education a two-week ultimatum to refund all capitation monies he allegedly misappropriated.
The teachers are accusing the District Director of spending two tranches of capitation grants meant for school management.
At a meeting of the Coalition of Headteachers Association on Monday, 9th August 2021 in Wulensi, the Chairman of the Coalition, Zinidu Mutinu Arimiyaw, said the Regional Director of Education urged the headteachers to use internal means to settle the matter.
“The Regional Director directed that the front liners should meet with us to see how the issue could be addressed. In the end, we resolved that the District Director should refund all monies spent,” Mr. Arimiyaw said to Citi News after the meeting.
The District Director of Education denied the claims, saying the monies were used for the conduct of exams.
“It wasn’t my fault, the monies were used for exam purposes, so for the headteachers to say I should pay back the money given to me in two weeks is unfair.”
The Headteachers, in an earlier interview with Citi News, said the behaviour of the director was a betrayal of trust.
They want him out of the district after the money is refunded.
“To us, what the District Director did without any consultation is a betrayal of the trust we have in him and for this, we can’t trust him. Going further, we, therefore, cannot work with him again. He must go,” they insisted.
