The Greater Accra Regional Security Council has directed all security councils in the various assemblies to embark on routine checks in public places to ensure strict compliance to the COVID-19 safety protocols.
The directive, which is from the Chairman of the Regional Security Council, Henry Quartey, is in compliance with President Akufo-Addo’s recent update on the increasing number of COVID-19 cases and the laxity on the part of citizens.
All Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies are mandated to ensure that individuals or groups of persons who flout the directive are arrested, fined, or prosecuted according to law to serve as a deterrent to others.
The development follows the fast-rising of COVID-19 cases in the country.
Accra continues to lead by far in terms of the number of COVID-19 cases in Ghana.
Out of the 108,226 cases recorded in the country so far, 58,026 were detected in the Greater Accra Region.
