The Acting Chief Executive Officer of South African Tourism, Themba Khumalo has urged stakeholders in the tourism industry to attend the upcoming Africa’s Travel Indaba slated for 2nd – 5th May 2022 in Durban, South Africa.
“The greatest solidarity we can demonstrate is not through our absence but increased presence. I will like to urge every buyer and every exhibitor that had pledged to be there to do so. I will also like to urge buyers and those who had decided to join virtually to be there physically,” he said.
The leading leisure show in the Africa region will be looking to take off from where the successful MeetingsAfrica held in Johannesburg ended earlier this year.
The show, according to organisers, is meant to offer the tourism sector an opportune platform to showcase to the world what’s on offer at Africa’s Travel Indaba 2022 – a trade show that has established itself as the continent’s premier tourism trade platform.
Mr. Khumalo was optimistic that the recent storm in South Africa will not have any negative impact on the upcoming programme.
He said the necessary arrangements had been devised to ensure the organization of a successful event.
“We are hosting Africa’s Travel Indaba on the 2nd of May to the 5th of May. The minute we realised the extent of the challenge on the ground, I dispersed the technical team, they have met with all our big parties on the ground and they have done their independent assessment of the situation.
“The infrastructure the city had put in place. They have augmented supplies so all of that infrastructure was in place. Those contingency plans were in place. I can assure the exhibitors that the infrastructure is intact. It has been reinforced to make sure everything is in order to hold the show effectively.”
South African Tourism is looking to rally the continent and welcome back international delegates from various parts of the world – to reconnect and share the real success stories of resilience, while demonstrating Africa’s world-class tourism products which will continue to give travellers an unforgettable experience.
