Africa’s leading bambara beans producer, Kasima Ghana has donated boxes of its flagship product, Bamnut Milk worth thousands of Ghana Cedis to Smiles of Hope, a peer support group for amputees.
As a value-driven and empowerment firm dedicated to making positive impacts on the communities it serves, Kasima Ghana during the donation indicated it was inspired by the fact that diabetes is one major cause of amputations which Bamnut Milk has the ability to prevent and slow down due to it sugar-free content.
Presenting the items to Smiles of Hope, Yussif Iddrisu, Marketing Manager for Kasima Ghana explained that Bamnut Milk is a healthy plant-based milk made from Ghana’s protein-rich Bambara beans which contains no added sugar, no chemical preservatives, or emulsifiers.
Mr. Iddrisu further highlighted the health benefits of Bamnut Milk, stating, “With calories of 158g per serving and 0mg cholesterol, BamNut Milk is safe for diabetic patients, people with lactose intolerance, and vegetarians as well.”
On his part, Edem Benedict Ativor, a lead marketer for Kasima Ghana described Bamnut Milk as “a regenerative product as it is made from the wonder crop, we call Bambara Beans. As we know, Bambara beans grows very well on even poor and degraded lands and in return, the plant replenishes the fertility of the soil. So, the whole concept is that while we are taking food from the ground, we end up nourishing the soil to save the planet. This is a future-fit crop and it is this principle of sustainability and regeneration that underpins the operations of Kasima Ghana and our partners, WhatIF Foods.”
Receiving the donation on behalf of Smiles of Hope, Miss Valeria Adzo Adzatia who is the director and co-founder of Smiles of Hope corroborated that one of the leading causes of amputation in Ghana is diabetes, and laments the challenge of finding products that meet the nutritional needs of patients some of whom end up with amputations.
She, therefore, commended Kasima Ghana for such an innovative product as Bamnut Milk and urged Ghanaians to patronize it for a healthier life.
“Diabetes is one of the leading causes of amputation and more often than not, patients will struggle to find foods that will tolerate the condition but are unable to find so I am happy Kasima Ghana has come up with this innovative Bamnut Milk to help us.
“We are so happy Kasima Ghana has decided to share with us and I will urge the public to buy the milk for a healthier life, away from all the cholesterol-laden milk products we have been consuming.”
Miss Valeria also took the opportunity to urge the government to intervene in the cost of prosthetic limbs for amputees.
“Our main concern as of now is the huge cost of the prosthetic limbs we use. These devices cost a minimum of three thousand GH¢3000 and even up to GH¢12,000 at some facilities in this country. We would be most grateful if the government could intervene for us. If it is possible, we could have it covered in full or even part under the NHIS.
“We also appeal to corporate organizations and philanthropists to support us in our work of providing amputees with employable skills to earn a living decently.”
