Head of the Antimicrobial Resistance Secretariat at the Ministry of Health, Saviour Kwame Yevutsey, has disclosed plans by the government to control the accessibility of antibiotics in Ghana.
Speaking at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research Institute’s special training program for frontline workers, Mr. Yevutsey acknowledged the growing rate of resistant infections in humans and livestock, and further catalogued some mechanisms put in place by the sector ministry to curtail the abuse of antibiotics.
“There is a plan to control antibiotics, but it is becoming very difficult, even in areas such as the USA and Europe. However, we need to be doing something, so as part of the Ministry’s intervention, we will use the traceability system to track some of these antibiotics in various chemical shops to control their supply.”
