Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton has expressed profound disappointment following his team’s crushing 4-0 defeat at the hands of the United States of America.
This disheartening loss marks their second consecutive defeat in friendly matches, with Ghana previously falling 0-2 to Mexico.
Hughton, formerly manager of Brighton and Hove Albion and Nottingham Forest, addressed the defeat at length. He emphasized the importance of improvement as Ghana prepares to face Egypt, Mozambique, and Cape Verde in Group B at the 2023 AFCON.
He remarked, “Sometimes performances like today can serve as a catalyst for change, or they can confirm my decision regarding our system and player selection.”
He went on to say, “The only recourse we have is to learn from this experience. I fully comprehend the disappointment, and there’s no one more disheartened than I am.”
In the match that took place at Geodis Park on Wednesday, October 18, USA’s Gio Reyna, Christian Pulisic, and Folarin Balogun were the scorers in their victory.
The team will return in November for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
