A delegation composed of the Minister of Education, the leadership of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, and officials from the Ghana Education Service is expected to visit the areas affected by the spillage of the Akosombo Dam to assess its impact on education and make appropriate recommendations.
Individuals and institutions such as the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) have been calling on the government to take swift measures to ensure that students in the affected communities do not miss out on their education.
According to Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, the ranking member of the Education Committee in Parliament, the delegation is expected to find a solution to the issue immediately after the assessment.
The Akatsi North legislator told Citi News that an emergency makeshift structure must be constructed to accommodate the affected students in the interim.
“The Committee’s leadership, the Minister of Education, and GES authorities will visit the places to do an assessment and see what can be done immediately. There are no classrooms for the students, so we need to create a makeshift environment for them to have their studies. We will assess the situation and then make suggestions to the Ghana Education Service and the district assemblies to comply.”
