The school, being the only school to represent Ghana, beat about twenty-three (23) High schools from all over the world including Pakistan, India, China, Japan, Mexico and the United States to emerge winners.
The OWASS Robotic Team at the World Robotic Competition in Detroit, Michigan comprised five students and a coach as well as a contingent of passionate Old Boys in the United States.
The Headmaster of the school, Dr Alexis Frimpong Nimoh commended the Old Boys of the school for supporting the team by paying for accommodation and other expenses.
He said the team has made a difference and raised the flag of Ghana high globally.
Ashanti Regional Education Director, Mrs Mary Owusu Achiaw congratulated the headmaster, the staff and the award winners for making the Region and Ghana proud.
She advised students in other senior High schools in the region to emulate the work done by the award winners and eschew negative acts such as the abuse of Tramadol and other harmful drugs.
“I would also want to send a signal to other students out there. Prempeh College has won, Opoku Ware has won, and it could be another school next year. If these students had been taking Tramadol and other drugs, I don’t think they would have been able to achieve what we are seeing today. So my advice to all students is that they should concentrate on their books”, she stressed.
She indicated the students taught by Ghanaian teachers and were able to win an international award.
She also called on students to remain dedicated to their books and focus on achieving greater heights in the academic ladder.
In 2016, Prempeh College also made Ghana proud by winning the trophy.
