Nine out of the 13 newly created District, Metropolitan and Municipal Assemblies in the Ashanti Region have successfully confirmed their respective Chief Executive nominees.
They are Asokwa, Oforikrom, Suame, Tafo, Adansi and Asokwa municipalities and, Akrofuom District, Amansie West District, Atwima Nwabiagya North District and Obuasi East District.
At the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly, garnering votes representing 95.2% of total votes cast, 20 out of a total membership of 21 voted confirmed the President’s nominee, Gloria Temmah Gambrah.
The Ashanti Regional minister who was happy about the turn of events told the newly endorsed Municipal Chief Executive of Oforikrom to practice an all-inclusive administration.
“You must unite all the assembly members to support you to do the work together. I’ve informed her that she needs unity and that her work must be transparent and must be accountable to her people.”
He has also asked all endorsed MMDCEs to help “ensure that you play your role in ensuring that government’s policies are fully functional in the MMDAs, and ensure optimization of their share of the national cake.”
Gloria Temmah Gambrah, on the other hand, pledged to work “hand in hand with all of you, my doors are open to you all”, and asked for support from all and sundry.
She said all challenges in the newly created districts such as “filth, low revenue collection, and building on waterways will be duly tackled and dealt with.”
