Ghanaian midfielder, Kevin-Prince Boateng, has given credence to rumours of a switch from Sassuolo to Barcelona this week.

The player stated in an interview with Sky Sports Italy on Monday that he was really heading to Spain to join Barcelona on loan until the end of the season.

The story broke on Monday afternoon and left many football surprised at the thought of seeing the former Hertha Berlin, Tottenham Hotspur, Portsmouth and AC Milan attacker wearing the Barcelona shirt and lining up with Lionel Messi on one team.

But it seems the move is very genuine and the player did say that he was going to Spain.

Boateng is quoted by Italian football journalist, Fabrizio Romano, to have said in an interview with Sky Sports that:

“Barça, I’m coming! I’m sad to leave Sassuolo but is a great chance. Don’t ask me about Real Madrid… is just the past! I only want to focus on Barcelona and I hope to score at Bernabéu for the next Clásico”

Boateng is pictured in tweets from Italian football journalist, Gianluca Di Marzio, where he is at an airport heading to Spain to complete the move. Sources close to Saassuolo say he left the team’s training base in the afternoon to fly to Barcelona.

Should the move be completed, it will mark Boateng’s second spell in Spain after he played for Las Palmas in the 2016/ 2017 season where he scored 10 goals in 28 appearances.

Sampler Supreme

Barcelona will be Kevin-Prince Boateng’s 10th team he has featured for in his career.

He has played for the likes of Hertha Berlin, Tottenham, Dortmund (on loan), Portsmouth, AC Milan (two spells), Schalke 04, Las Palmas, Eintracht Frankfurt and Sassuolo

Per stats portal, Opta, only France’s Loic Remy, has played for more clubs.
