Members of Parliament have condemned the killing of Tiger Eye PI investigator, Ahmed Hussein-Suale, calling on the police to hasten their investigations to ensure that the perpetrators of the dastardly act are arrested and prosecuted.
The MPs in contributing to a statement made by the Kumbungu MP, Ras Mubarak, said the recent killing of Ahmed Suale should not be seen as an emerging trend within the media space.
Ras Mubarak, described the killing of Ahmed Hussein-Suale as an unfortunate incident, and thus called for stringent measures to prevent a recurrence of such acts.
He argued that journalists in the country over the years have gone about their duties with respect and freedom devoid of any forms of fear and insecurity, adding such an environment should not change.
“Journalists in this country have the opportunity to go about their work in a high level of respect and freedom. Journalists have the opportunity to ply their trade in their high level of safety in the country than any other jurisdiction. “
“What has happened is a very unfortunate incident which ought not to be associated with the culture of media practice in Ghana; that is why the security agencies who are responsible for conducting a thorough investigation are given space and opportunity to do their investigation and come to a conclusion so that the perpetrators of this act can be held accountable.”
The Kumbungu MP also called on the public to be circumspect in their commentary on the death of the slain journalist, as the security agencies work to unravel the truth behind his death
“While on one breath we call on the security agency to quicken the investigation, let us also be measured in our commentary” the MP said.
Nyantakyi, Ken Agyapong interrogated over Ahmed Suale killing
The Ghana Police Service last week said it had interrogated former Ghana Football Association President, Kwesi Nyantakyi and MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong as part of its investigations into the killing of an employee of Tiger Eye PI, Ahmed Hussein-Suale.
In a statement issued, the police said its team of detectives has taken statements from both individuals over the matter.
The Police revealed that it had gotten many significant leads about Ahmed Suale’s death, and was following up those leads to help it identify the perpetrators of the heinous crime.
“The CID continues to interrogate other persons of interest as well as following up on multiple significant leads,” it said.
Ahmed-Suale, who worked closely with investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas on the #Number12 football corruption exposé among others, was shot dead last Wednesday at Madina while driving home.
‘We won’t be rushed into making arrests’ – Police
The Police Service a week ago also said that it will not be pushed into making arrests over the killing of investigative journalist, Ahmed Hussein-Suale, without evidence, despite pressure from the public and the media.
There was uproar over the murder of the TigerEye PI investigator by unknown gunmen on a motorbike over a week ago.
The police have since come in for strong criticism for failing to make an arrest so far despite a few eyewitness accounts of the incident.
The Director General of the Police Public Affairs Directorate, ACP David Eklu, confirmed on Eyewitness News that the Police has interviewed a number of persons including former GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi, whose fall from grace was occasioned by the Tiger Eye PI team’s Number 12 investigation.
There have also been calls for the arrest of Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, after he openly called for retribution against Ahmed-Suale on TV in the heat of the release of the #Number12 video in July 2018.
ACP Eklu stated that, while the two men were indeed questioned over the incident, the police will not be pressured into any arrests without any proof of guilt.
