A 65-year-old widow, Fatima Nyande, has lost her life savings of GHc 2,000 to termites after she buried her money in a hole under some firewood in her compound in Kpasa in the Nkwanta North district of the Volta Region.
Madam Nyande told Benjamin Owusu, a local reporter that she chose to hide her daily sales in the hole because she did not trust the banks.
“I started saving the money in the dug hole at home after dubious financial companies absconded with my Gh¢4,000.00.”
Madam Nyande advised the public to save their monies in the banks as they appeared to be a better alternative.
She seized the opportunity to appeal to the district assembly and the Electricity Company of Ghana to extend electricity to the area to enable her to continue with her water supply business.
