A team of undergraduate students from the University of Ghana have been crowned winners of the 2019 Hultz Prize Regional competition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The four-man squad known as AgriLab, beat 61 other teams in the grand finale to become the sole winners.
Team AgriLab, upon their arrival in Kuala Lumpur, was a delight to watch due to the uniformity in attire which depicts a true sense of oneness and Africanism.
The theme for this Year’s Hultz Prize competition is “For Us, By Us” – solving Youth Unemployment.
The competition is targeted at creating a business venture which can provide 10,000 young people with jobs over the next decade.
Other wins
Meanwhile, three other students who were selected to participate in the 10th Annual Hult Prize Regional Final Competition in Boston, United States of America came second.
Their participation in the final competition in the USA followed their success in the University of Ghana’s edition of the competition.
Christened the ‘Green Growth’ team, the final year students – Gilles Ametepe, Kingsley Adu-Okyere and Ewura Adams Karim beat 26 other teams.
The Hultz Prize Competition
The Hultz Prize competition which is the world’s largest student movement for social good was started by Ahmed Ashkar and Bertil Hultz in 2009 in partnership with the Hultz Prize Business School and the United Nations.
It is an annual, year-long competition that welcomes college and university students from all over the world to compete for USD 1 million in seed capital to help the winning team launch a social enterprise.
Students are challenged to solve a pressing social issue around topics such as food security, water access, energy, and education.
