Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba Professor Anthony Afful Broni says the University is ready to work with the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE) to ensure best practices in the teacher education sector.
He explained that a stakeholder workshop would be held for over 700 teachers in the Effutu Municipality in preparation for the four year B. Ed program at the University.
Speaking to Citi News at the maiden meeting with principals of colleges of Education, affiliated to University of Education, the Vice Chancellor indicated that the University has put in place a number of programs relevant to the academic progression of all category of staff adding that this would bring all staff in line with the requirement of NCTE.
He again pointed out that meetings would be held with the Municipal Director of Education as well as workshops organized for basic school teachers on the Supported Teaching in School program (STS) by ITECPD.
“Some of the few development and initiatives which the University has undertaken in the past years in anticipation to collaborate with various stakeholders in improving the teacher education sector is an indication that the University continues to be associated with leading reforms in the educational sector and on the global scene,” the Vice Chancellor noted.
According to Professor Afful Broni, there are opportunities for staff of the Colleges of Education affiliated to the University of Education to take advantage of the opportunities to collaborate with the university or join project teams to conduct and publish their research works.
“In this special affiliation arrangement we expect that the two parties would work collaboratively to ensure that resources for the student, academic, administration, conduct of examinations and staff progression are undertaken in conformity with regulations set out by NCTE to assure the highest academic quality for the benefit of students, teachers and the nation at large,” Afful Broni stated.
He intimated that Teacher Education Reforms are essential to the development of the human resource base of the nation.
“As a matter of urgency, its implementation as set out by the Government of Ghana requires the fullest dedication of stakeholders to ensure a high success rate.”
The University as part of the effort to improve infrastructural development also cut the sod for the construction of a food court.
The commissioning of the clothing production unit at the North Campus is also meant to take take care of students attire and gowns for the university.
“The clothing production unit also sows gowns for various tertiary institutions,” he noted.
The commissioning of the Food Production Unit also at the North campus is also meant to serve the needs of teaching and non-teaching staff.
The Vice-Chancellor assured that the construction of the food court would be completed on time for the admission of fresh students.
