A security analyst, Colonel Festus Aboagye is not convinced by the police report confirming the death of the three Takoradi kidnapped girls.
The Police Service after conducting a DNA test on some human parts salvaged from a former residence of the key suspect in the Takoradi kidnapping case, reported that the DNA matched that of the four missing girls; Ruth Abakah, Priscilla Kuranchie, Ruth Love Quayson and Priscilla Blessing Bentum.
The announcement was made by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), James Oppong-Boanuh on Monday evening confirming the death of the girls.
According to Col Aboagye, the report did not answer a lot of questions since the IGP did not give enough details leading to the death of the girls.
Addressing the issue on the Citi Breakfast Show, he said, “The statement from the IGP did not tell us a number of things. For instance, when were the girls killed exactly? Were all four girls killed at the same time? Were they killed at different times? What were the circumstances under which they were killed? Was there any trauma detected on any of the bones? Was it from gunshots? What happened really? The police are silent on these things.”
He said that the laid-back approach by the police in handling the issue has resulted in the families asking for independent investigations and also questioned the basis for the IGP calling for the commendation of the investigators.
He further noted that if the investigations had gone on smoothly without any doubt, the families and the Ghanaian public would have accepted the results wholeheartedly.
“The issue about someone [a police officer] saying that he dealt with a similar case sometime back so they should go back to the facility and search the manholes is what we call professional expertise. Where was that expertise eighteen months ago? This shows that the police did not take their own lead. Their leads were based on information from the criminal,” he said.
