Academic work at the Yamfo College of Health in the Tano North Municipality of the Ahafo Region has come to a halt after the Sunyani High Court placed an injunction on teaching and learning following allegations that the school was allegedly running programs without accreditation.
The injunction was sought by some aggrieved students after it emerged that their certificates would not be accepted upon completion.
Earlier, the over 300 final year students of the college threatened to embark on a demonstration exercise over the development.
Bright Ninyol, who speaks for the students explained the situation to Citi News.
“It was stated in the student’s handbook that was given to us that, the school was fully accredited. When you visit the school’s website too, it is stated that the school is accredited and affiliated to the University of Cape Coast. The Medical and Dental Council published the list of health schools that were accredited by them, [but] our school wasn’t found. So we wrote a petition to the school to come and answer questions that we don’t understand. It was then that the Registrar told us that the school wasn’t accredited but they were in the process of acquiring accreditation.”
The students say they only recently discovered that the school has no clearance from the National Accreditation Board to administer the course.
The Yamfo College of Health, established in 2015 has over 1,000 students reading various courses.
The graduating students have expressed fears that they may graduate without certificates because the school lacks the appropriate accreditation.
