The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Ho municipality, Prosper Pi-Bansah has announced that parts of the newly constructed Ho Central market which has remained closed since its completion in 2016 will be opened to the public.
Opening of the Ho Central market building funded by the Agence France de Development under the Ghana Urban Management Pilot Project (GUMPP) has been saddled with numerous litigations over the distribution of the stalls.
Some aggrieved persons who claim they had stalls which were demolished to pave way for the new market building say they have not been allocated stalls after the completion of the building, for which reason they have sued the assembly, a situation which has caused the facility to remain a white elephant.
In a different court case, another group of market women have sued the association of market stall owners but the newly appointed MCE, Prosper Pi-Bansah at a Meet-the-Press organized by the municipal assembly said even those who had stalls that were demolished had no permanent entitlement to the lands on which the structures were established.
The MCE announced that parts of the market building which are not under contention like the bank, clinic, police and fire stations will be commissioned and opened to the public.
The market building will be the first of three projects under the Ghana Urban Management Pilot Project to be operationalized since its completion four years ago.
An abattoir, also constructed under the GUMPP projects has been left in a bush pending the procurement of equipment for its operationalization.
The Municipal Assembly has however indicated that a contractor is being engaged to supply the equipment.
A landfill site also constructed under the GUMPP initiative remains fallow but the assembly said it has fenced the place and working towards its operationalization.
The MCE also took time to share with the press, the projects undertaken by the Municipal Assembly since 2017.
