Academic work is being hampered at Miawani D/A Primary School in the Pru East District of the Bono East Region as no teacher has been posted to the school in the last three years.
The Miawani D/A Primary School has good classrooms but unfortunately, there are no teachers to teach the over 100 children on the Island community.
Achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 by ensuring inclusive and equitable, quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all would not be achieved if the situation continues at the Miawani Community.
A resident of the community, Elijah Okomonkwe Jnr who has volunteered to help the children tells Citi News what he is doing to help the children.
“Because I am the only teacher teaching from Kindergarten to Basic 6, in the morning, I give library books to the pupils in Basic 6 so that they would stay in the classroom and not go out. After that, I move to the various classes to teach. It is very difficult but I am doing my best to help the children.”
On attendance, Elijah Okomonkwe Jnr indicated that, it has been fluctuating because of the absence of teachers.
The Odikro of Miawani, Duniah Chipah said he has made several appeals to the Pru East District Education Directorate for a teacher to be posted “here but nothing has happened after my appeals were made.”
“We were lucky our Member of Parliament, Dr. Kwabena Donkor built a classroom for us but unfortunately we do not have teachers, it is only Elijah Okomonkwe who has sacrificed to help the children. We need teachers in this community, I am appealing to the GES to post teachers here.”
When the Pru East District Director of the Ghana Education Service, John Kwadwo Amissah was contacted, he declined to comment on the issue.
