The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a nursing mother, a spiritualist and seven other suspected hardened criminals. The suspects were picked up during a two-week intelligence-led operation as part of ‘Operation Father Christmas’ aimed at curbing crime during the festive session.
The first group of six suspects were arrested at Sukura a suburb of Accra on the 20th of November 2019 when the police foiled their attempted robbery. The suspects include: a professional machine operator Moses Tetteh alias Kaizer 20, Louis Mawunyor Dzedzom a driver 37, and Kwabena Otibu 29.
The rest are Alhassan Abdulai a spiritualist 42, Kwame Takyi 25 and his wife, a nursing mother Eunice Dorkenu who is currently on police inquiry bail.
The Accra Regional Police Commander DCOP Fredrick Adu Anim said “in November this year, the suspect Moses Tetteh (the gang leader) contacted suspect Kwame Takyi and informed him of an intended robbery operation in Dansoman, which he agreed and further recruited suspect Louis Mawunyor Dzedzom as a driver who would drive the car if they succeed in robbing it.
The police acting on intelligence proceeded to the secret location at Sukura where four suspects who were found smoking dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp in preparation for the said operation were arrested”
According to him, the suspects are been investigated for their alleged involvement in shooting, robbery and raping of their victims at Trasscco, Dansoman, Nsawam and other parts of the country.
“ they have confessed to series of crimes in Accra including Two robberies at Trassacco where victims were ribbed and raped. The robbery of mobile money shops at Atdeka, Zenu, all suburbs of Ashaiman” the Regional Commander added.
Some items retrieved from the suspects include “a foreign pistol loaded with 14 rounds of ammunitions, a spare magazine loaded with 11 rounds of ammunitions and dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp” the police said.
The second group of suspects who were arrested at Nsawam, Abossey Okai and Glife include Abdul Rahman Ishaq, Iddrisu Abdul Jalil alias CID, and Faisal Mohammed Muniru alias ‘Money Can Do’
According to the police the syndicate “attacked one Albert Adamu a money changer at Akokofoto, shot him in the left eye and left should and robbed him two hundred and eighty thousand Ghana cedis.
The same group also attacked Chinese businessman at Weija and robbed him of an unspecified amount of money”
Another suspect Abass Ussif who was also arrested at Kasoa Ota City had in his possession one foreign Pistol, two Pistol Magazines with eight rounds of ammunitions each, twenty spent shells of pistol ammunitions, five live 8mm ammunitions, one pump action gun with seven live cartridges and five spent cartridges, three jack knives, a talisman among others.
Two vehicles have also been retrieved from the suspects.
In his address to the media, the Accra Regional Police Commander DCOP Fredrick Adu Anim called on victims of their escapades to assist the police in investigations.
