The National Communications Authority has joined the religious faithful in the Eastern Region to celebrate this year’s World Consumer Rights Day.
The World Consumer Rights Day is an annual event, observed on a global level to educate consumers on their rights and responsibilities as well to build their confidence in seeking redress when their rights are undermined by service providers.
Considering that this year’s celebration falls on a Sunday, the Muslim and Christian Communities was targeted for the 13th and 15th of March respectively.
The Telecommunication Services Regulator in the country focused its consumer education on the rights of the phone user.
The event was held in about nine (9) other venues across the country.
In the Eastern Region, the event was marked at the Central Mosque and the Central Assemblies of God Church in Koforidua.
Led by the Consumer and Corporate Affairs Division of the Authority in the Region, consumers were engaged on various relevant subjects in the telecommunication sector which included Unsolicited Electronic Communication (UEC), Mobile Number Portability (MNP), Mobile Money Fraud Prevention, and Complaint Procedures among others.
Some of the rights discussed included right to safety, right to be informed, right to choose, right to be heard and right to seek redress.
Consumers in the selected churches and mosques were advised to report all challenges faced while using the various telecommunication products to their service providers or to the NCA if they are not satisfied.
