The Drobo Traditional Council in the Bono Region has denied its involvement in the attack on a communicator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Israel Kofi Baffour Asare.
Mr. Asare was attacked for allegedly insulting the Queen mother of Drobo, Nana Yaa Ansuaa on social media.
A section of the media had alleged the Council instructed the lashing of the NPP Communicator.
Addressing a press conference at the Krupiase Palace at Drobo, the Gyaasehene of the Drobo Traditional Area, Nana Amoh Yeboah Asuamah however denied the claim.
“The Drobo Traditional Council wishes to emphatically deny knowledge of and involvement of the alleged assault on the NPP Communicator on 14th December 2020. When the assault took place both the Omanhene and the Omanhemaa were out of the Traditional Area.”
Nana Asuamah noted that some persons within the Jaman South Municipality were trying to create disaffection for the Council.
He urged the public to disregard the allegation, adding that the Council is a respected institution and would not abuse the human rights of anyone.
“We wish the general public to know that the Drobo Traditional Council is a responsible body of chiefs. We recognize and respect the rights and liberties of the individuals including the right to dignity, self-respect and due process of law.”
