The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle, Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah, has commissioned a three-Unit classroom block for Salman D/A Basic School, one of the underprivileged communities in the Ellembelle District.
The new block which replaces a dilapidated makeshift wooden structure was funded by the Member of Parliament for Ellembelle from his personal resources as well as the Common Fund at a cost of GHS200,000.
Speaking at the commissioning of the three-unit classroom block, Armah Kofi-Buah said though his common fund was not enough to fund the project, he had to use his personal funds to ensure the facility is ready for use by the pupils.
“Because the NDC and I are committed to education and for that matter quality education, we built 13 schools across Ellembelle in eight years. This is an achievement the NPP cannot compare itself to, considering what they have shown so far. The GHS200,000 cost of the project made it impossible at the start of the project as my Common Fund was not enough to fund it. However, because of my commitment to the education of the people of Salman, I used my personal funds to see to its completion. This goes to support the NDC’s determination to ensure quality education for all Ghanaians but we must first start with the provision of good educational infrastructure like this.“
A student of the school, Beatrice Ofosu told Citi News the new block is a relief to academic work.
“The school is beautiful. We thank the MP because without this block we cannot learn. Look at our old school block over there, when we are in it, we cannot concentrate on learning because of threat from snakes and other dangers”, said Beatrice Ofosu.
Another student, Gladys Tawiah, said “we thank the MP for this block. One more thing we need is chairs and teachers to enable teaching and learning.”
The Chief of Salman Community who joined Armah Kofi-Buah to commission the three-unit classroom block described the MP as somebody who has the welfare and development of Nzema as his priority.
He said the school project is going to be beneficial to the education of the people of Salma but urged residents to take advantage of the quality of the education the new school block will bring.
