The Rotary Club of Accra-Labone, a Rotary-sponsored service club has launched its 20th Anniversary in Accra with a pledge to continually improve communities and society.
The event was held at the Golden Tulip Hotel on Saturday, December 19, 2020.
At the launch, the Rotary Club of Accra used the occasion to reflect on some life-changing initiatives the club has undertaken in the past 20 years.
Key among them include; renovating the Children wards at the Nsawam Hospital, donations to less privileged communities, construction of boreholes in deprived communities, donations to orphanages, among many other impressive gestures.
Delivering a speech at the launch, President of the Rotary Club of Accra-Labone, Doreen Ashiboe pledged the club’s commitment to contribute towards improving society and humanity in areas of maternal and child health, education, and literacy, and environmental sustainability.
Also speaking in an interview with Citi News after the launch, the President of the Rotary club of Acca -Labone said despite 2020 being a challenging year, her outfit was able to adapt and rise to the occasion by helping institutions and organizations that needed help.
She added that the Rotary Club of Accra-Labone can look forward to the next 20 years with hope, adding that a 5-year strategic plan has been developed for the club to propel it to the next level.
“It is true that 2020 has been quite some year, but we are Rotarians and we adapt. Most of the activities have been done via Zoom and it has been helpful very. We did a Sanitary pad donation in August. We were able to do a few hundred boxes of sanitary pads to the Pantang hospital.”
“We have developed the 5-year strategic plan and we are going to implement it to the core and get in members who are committed to the service ideology” she added.
There was also a fundraising ceremony to support the club’s major programs and activities for the year 2021 and the unveiling of the 20th-anniversary celebration logo.
Key among some of the projects and initiatives outlined 2021 as follows; Commissioning of Anniversary Project – Alavanyo Borehole (Ga West Municipal Assembly), The Annual ‘Tour De Labone’ cycling fundraising event, commissioning of Anniversary Project which is the construction of Groundwater based Piped Water System at Dakrochiwa in the Ayensuano District in the Eastern Region.
The rest include; a public lecture – PAG Ralph Memorial Lectures, ROCAL offsite Anniversary trip – Cruise on Dodi Princess, commissioning of their Anniversary Project at the Nsawam Children’s Hospital among others.

The Accra-Labone Rotary Club is a club in District 9100 and was chartered on June 29, 2001, with Rotary International being the world’s first service club organization.
