The executives of the Tarkwa branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have congratulated the Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, George Mireku Duker on his appointment as Deputy Minister-designate for Lands and Natural Resources at a press briefing in Tarkwa.
“With his rich background in the mining and energy-related fields, coupled with his past sterling performances, we are very optimistic that he will bring forth his experiences and exposure to support the sector minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor in achieving the vision of the government,” Mr. Edem Gomashie, the assistant secretary of Tarkwa Nsuaem NPP, said in his address to the press.
The constituency executives also expressed their profound gratitude to the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the honour done the Member of Parliament and pledged their full support to ensure the successful tenure of the minister-designate.
The executives also called on the chiefs and the people of the Tarkwa-Nsuaem constituency to rally behind George Mireku Duker in order for him to deliver on his mandate successfully.
George Mireku Duker is currently serving his second term as the Member of Parliament for Tarkwa Nsuaem for and also previously served as the Vice Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Mines & Energy in the 7th Parliament, the First Board Chairperson of the Minerals Income Investment Fund as well as a Board member of the NBSSI.
His constituency, Tarkwa-Nsuaem, is currently home to three of the country’s large-scale mining companies namely; Goldfields Ghana Limited, Tarkwa Mine, Anglogold Ashanti, Iduapriem Mine and Ghana Manganese Company which together with other mining companies in the Wassa enclave, accounts for about 40% of total gold produced in the country.
Mr Mireku Ducker is one of 39 deputy ministers nominated under 24 portfolios in President Nana Akufo-Addo’s second term in office.
The names of the 39 deputy ministers-designate were captured in a statement issued by the Presidency on Wednesday, April 21, 2021.
