The Member of Parliament (MP) for Krowor in the Greater Accra Region, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey has donated to fire victims of Wala-Afoɔ neighbourhood in the Mukwejor Electoral Area of Nungua.
The lawmaker made the donation on Sunday, August 8, 2021.
The relief items included cash, buckets, washbasins, student mattresses, washing soap, washing powder, sleeping cloth, bags of rice, and other food items.
Chaotic scenes consumed the Wala-Afoɔ neighbourhood in the Mukwejor Electoral Area of Nungua on the eve of 25th July 2021 as scores of squatters and other residents had their kiosk structures engulfed by fire.
The fire which took the residents nearly an hour to douse led to 14 structures being destroyed, leaving the affected families utterly devastated.
The fire affected 12 structures and two stores inhabited by 25 adults and 17 children.
However, the residents received a huge sigh of relief on Sunday, when the MP went to their aid to present relief items and cash to them.
Madam Agnes Naa Momo Lartey in addressing the beneficiaries before the presentation intimated that she will always be available to assist them.
“I am aware that the items will not be sufficient to fully replace the quantum of your losses, but it will certainly ameliorate the pain and suffering you have been through to some extent. I wish I could have done more than this, but like you, I am working from the opposition side and so it is not easy. It has been eight (8) months since I assumed office as the Member of Parliament for Krowor, but there has not been any release of money into the MPs Common Fund to be able to execute any work for the people. But even as it is, you will continue to benefit from the little resources I will be able to mobilize.”
“So like I indicated from the beginning, the object of this intervention is not to completely offset all your economic losses but to support you in my own small way. It is my prayer that my token of support multiplies a thousand folds as you accept them in love and appreciation. God bless you all for coming out to listen to me and for having the courage and strength to live through these difficult times.”
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, one of the residents, Kwame Tetteh said: “We deeply appreciate what you have done for us. The last time you brought us cash after the fire incident, we actually did not believe you will come back again with even much more. May God continue to bless you and nourish your path so that all your heart desires will come to pass, even as you continue to show love to us. Everything you want to achieve in this life will be accomplished. God richly bless you.”
