A non-profit organisation, Comfort Legacy Foundation (CLF) has marked its 4th anniversary.
CLF was founded in March 2018 and has over the years undertaken a number of life-saving CSR activities which have helped to turn around the lives of some deprived kids in Ghana.
CLF supports malnourished children, and creates awareness on healthy lifestyle choices, through advocacy for good nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices, to prevent and manage malnutrition.
“Our vision is to prevent and manage all forms of malnutrition, especially among children under five (5) years. We do so by providing emotional, instrumental, and informational support for the general public, and monetary support, especially for vulnerable families,” a statement from CLF noted.
Below is a newsletter released by CLF to mark the anniversary:
Celebrating 4 years of impacting lives
Background
Comfort Legacy Foundation (CLF) was founded in March 2018. It is a non-profit organization that primarily supports malnourished children, and creates awareness on healthy lifestyle choices, through advocacy for good nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices, to prevent and manage malnutrition. Our vision is to prevent and manage all forms of malnutrition, especially among children under five (5) years. We do so by providing emotional, instrumental and informational support for the general public, and monetary support, especially for vulnerable families. Our goals are:
- To solicit for external funds and products to enable the foundation support malnourished children (Feed a Hungry Child Project – FHC).
- To educate the general public about healthy lifestyle choices and manage non-communicable diseases (Optimum Nutrition Care Project – ONC).
- To adopt innovative strategies to provide internal revenue for running the foundation (Create a Support Project – CAS).
We plan to reach these goals through:
- Partnership with at least one new organization annually to provide monetary revenue for supporting malnourished children.
- Update of our social media handles with healthful lifestyle choices, at least weekly.
- Provision of nutritional solutions for diet-related conditions to the public at reduced rates, and sell products/foundation paraphernalia, to generate revenue, for the running of the foundation.
Progress
CLF is four (4) years old and continues to provide nutrition education, provide monthly support for malnourished children and undertake yearly donations to vulnerable groups.
Social Media
Currently, our major channel of advocacy is social media (YouTube-Comfort Legacy Foundation, Facebook-Optimum Nutrition Care) where we share videos and health information related to lifestyle and wellbeing. Our target has been children, parents, youth and middle age, and everyone concerned about their health.
Link to one of the videos is shared here.
Other Events and Activities
We have accepted invitation from several TV shows to educate the public on different nutrition related topics. We have worked with individuals and institutions like Medifem Hospital and Atlantic Catering Services to provide nutrition solutions for varying needs.
Sponsors and Partners
We currently have Goodman Powering Progress. We also rely on family and friends to send donations when necessary.
Donations
CLF Annual donations have been sponsored by Goodman Lubricants Limited and supported by Nivea, Kokoplus, and “That Woman of Prayer”.
CLF has made some product donations at the Asonomaso Government Hospital, Asamang SDA Hospital, Kasaam Community and St. Mathias Hospital in the Brong Ahafo Region. Activities included Nutrition education, talk to encourage women to improve their livelihoods, and sharing of the good news.
Products donated include fortified cereals (weanimix), annapurna iodized salt, brillant key soap, omo washing powder, Kokoplus to last mothers one month, Nivea body lotion, shower gel and deodorants. Over 300 women and about 50 health workers have received some gifts from CLF. From our interactions with women in the communities we have worked in, yearly donations have been valuable. The health care professionals acknowledge that our donations help them to improve coverage of their health activities. For example, mothers are motivated to attend weighing centres for growth monitoring of their children under 5 years.
Malnourished Cases
Seventeen cases of malnourished children/mothers have been supported with RUTF, medications, family planning procedure, food products and upkeep.
Challenge
Lack of necessary financial support to reach out to many malnourished children, nationwide.
Way Forward
Actively solicit for funding to undertake all CLF activities towards achievement of goals.
Conclusion
Frequent and consistent social media engagement; with the right financial push, partnership and resources, many more malnourished children will be saved across the country.
