Vivo Energy Ghana, Shell Licensee and United Way Ghana on the 5th of October 2022 entered a partnership to promote environmental sustainability. This partnership will focus on creating opportunities through well-structured Environmental Club activities to inspire underprivileged young learners to develop interests in keeping the environment clean and be innovative in turning recyclable materials into different inventions.
The School Environmental club project is designed to boost the health and academic performance of pupils at the Airport 1&2 Junior High School. This will be attained by improving access to functional hand washing stations, information, and resources to create a conducive learning environment and to enable the young learners practice proper waste management. This initiative will engage pupils, parents, caregivers, and teachers in educational activities on the importance of maintaining a good and recreational environment and its effect on their health, creativity, and soundness of mind.
At the signing ceremony, Mr Felix Kissiedu-Addi, the Executive Director of United Way Ghana said “The partnership with Vivo Energy Ghana will create opportunities for 500 young learners and 40 teachers to learn from nature, to experiment and gain insights into environmental best practices such as proper waste disposal, sanitation, tree planting, and recycling. United Way Ghana appreciates Vivo Energy Ghana for its solidarity and commitment to promote environmental sustainability as a strategic action for a healthier planet by inspiring individuals to care for and preserve the environment.”

We want to create lasting social and economic benefits for these communities and engage them to earn their respect and trust, Managing Director of Vivo Energy Ghana Mr. Kader Maiga, made this known during the signing ceremony.

We have over the years demonstrated our commitment to the development of our host communities through sustainable development initiatives, especially in the areas of the Environment and Education and we are happy to partner with the United Way Ghana to amplify this commitment” he said.
In her remarks, the Corporate Communications Manager of Vivo Energy Ghana, Mrs. Shirley Tony Kum expressed that, the Airport Community hosts one of Vivo Energy’s flagship service stations, and it is only prudent that the company educate pupils and teachers at the Airport 1&2 Junior High School to help them adopt behaviours that will safeguard the environment, improve education and consequently promote both a better quality of life and a sustainable future for the pupils and our society.
The partnership is in line with United Way Ghana and Vivo Energy Ghana’s strategic intervention to improve access to quality education. It also contributes to the attainment of the 4th, 6th, 13th, 14th, and 17th Sustainable Development Goals, namely Quality Education, Clean Water and Sanitation, Climate Action, and Partnerships for the Goals.
