Bolgatanga MUSEC to dialogue with Sherigu community on issues with herdsmen

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Bolgatanga, Rex Asanga, has indicated that the Security Council would soon resume negotiations with the traditional leaders of Sherigu and Fulani communities in the Upper East Region.

An altercation between the two areas caused the Security Council to relocate some herdsmen to the Bolgatanga Sports Stadium.

In an interview with Citi News, the MCE said, although calm has returned to the area, his outfit would continue the dialogue with the community.

“So far what has happened is that we have been engaging. Just that, when the court case came in between them, it was a bit difficult to continue with the dialogue. Now there seems to be some understanding getting underway, and I believe we can resume the dialogue since they have given a court bail to the youth, and they are back home. The assembly would resume dialogue with the community”.

The MCE further explained that “A lot of the people who we had relocated to the stadium, because they have cattle to take care of, they started leaving one by one to take their cattle to the bush to look for safer places to graze so quite a number of them have left, so they are just a few that are there at the stadium, basically women and children,” he indicated.
