Education Think Tank Africa Education Watch (Eduwatch) is urging examination bodies to consider increasing the remuneration of its staff as one of the factors in dealing with the leakage of examination questions.
The think tank believes that officials in charge of administering examination papers have the tendency to leak examination papers for a fee to supplement their salaries.
Speaking in response to the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education Training (CTVET)’s introduction of test serialization to deal with leakage, Senior Programmes Officer of Eduwatch Divine Kpe said low remuneration would make staff of examination bodies compromise standards.
“The work of the persons that work there is very important, and their remuneration should be looked at. One of the things we identified is that low remuneration sometimes discourages people and they go along in compromising the exams process.
“So their remuneration needs to be reviewed. The depot where exam questions are kept days before the exams is one of the weakest links when it comes to exams irregularities. So at the depot, security should be strengthened,” Kpe opined.
