A flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, says showcasing successful Ghanaian farmers will encourage the youth to venture into agriculture.
He made the remarks in Accra on Tuesday during the launch of his 2024 campaign.
“Agriculture is an area where we can make a lot of money,” he said. “So if we can showcase Ghanaian farmers who have made money from commercial farming, the younger generation will be encouraged to do the same.”
Agyepong said that what mattered was the kind of leadership and commitment that was channelled into the sector to leverage the opportunities it presented.
He also said that institutions that had been established with the core mandate to support the agricultural sector must be made to do so to ensure that startups, in particular, were given the needed assistance to propel them.
“President Agyepong will insist that they concentrate on their core mandate and deliver accordingly,” he added.
Agyepong also said that there were policies that needed stringent implementation to ensure that these institutions executed their mandates. He added that “there is too much impudence in this country and there will be zero tolerance for these things.”
