In a heartwarming and touching act of kindness, the Fletcher sisters made a generous donation of assorted items to Citi FM/Citi TV’s #Relief4LowerVolta campaign.
The sisters—15-year-old Nana Ekua Oppong, 12-year-old Baaba Fletcher, 7-year-old Gabriel Nana Adwoa Fletcher, and 10-year-old Mercy Victoria Maame Adwoa Fletcher—said on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday that they were moved by the suffering of the people affected by the Akosombo Dam’s spillage and decided to break their piggy banks and take out money to help.
“We came to make donations for the people in Akosombo because we saw them pleading on the news, and we decided that if we have, we should give to them. We saw that they needed food and basic things that we all use in our everyday lives,” 15-year-old Nana Ekua Oppong told Bernard Avle.
“We actually opened our piggy banks to take some money out to buy the things, and we have been saving since last year October,” Miss Fletcher added.
The sisters donated items including paper towels, rice, Milo, soap, toothpaste, spaghetti, and underwear.
They also urged other young people to join the campaign to help bring relief to the affected people.
“I believe that we are the world, we are the children, and we are the ones to make it a better place, so we should start giving because if we have, people should also be able to have because it is not fair having basic things and others don’t have because the flood affected children just like us. So if we have, why shouldn’t they have?”
