The New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has once again promised to transform all E-blocks into boarding facilities in the next academic year.
The construction of the E-blocks under the community day school project introduced by the NDC government was to make education available at the doorstep of some deprived communities in the country.
Although the Akufo-Addo-led administration has completed some of the projects, some have been left unattended.
During a debate on the 2024 budget in Parliament, the Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum said the next NPP government will ensure that the policy is improved upon.
“If you put E-blocks in the city, it’s the best investment you can make, but if you decide that the majority of your E-blocks are going to be in villages. And that if we don’t add a dormitory that we can open, then you tell me why you are not opening the schools, I don’t understand. I’m going to open your schools; we will open a number of them.”
“This coming academic year and beyond, when we come back to our 3rd term, we will open all E-blocks and make them boarding schools under President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” the Minister of Education promised.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has over the years accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of abandoning the E-blocks built by former president John Dramani Mahama.
