As part of activities to herald the 147th anniversary of Mfantsipim School, the 1981-year group has launched a book titled “Memoirs of the Centenary Greenhorns” in Accra.
The book among other things gives an insight into the school’s history and some key elements that make it stand tall among its peers.
Mfantsipim School, a Methodist and all-male institution has over the 147-year period trained thousands of personalities who have contributed their quota to national development.
The idea by the 1981-year group of the Mfantsipim Old Boys Association (MOBA), was borne out of the need to provide knowledge on how the school has stood the test of time to provide quality human resources to the development needs of Ghana.
One of the book’s editors who is also an old boy, Mr. Moses Ayiku Jnr. said the publication is part of their support to raise funds for the school.
It is also intended to tell their story to particularly encourage the younger generation to aspire to higher heights.
The chapters in the Memoir include centenary celebrations, academics, sports and the future of Mfantsipim.
A retired educationist and member of MOBA 1966 Mr. Anis Haffar who reviewed the book said it provides useful lessons to current and prospective students on their aspirations and expectations.
The Publisher of the Memoir of the Centenary Greenhorns, Mrs. Nana Kegya Appiah-Adu of ACE publisher said the book is an eye opener to life on Mfantsipim campus.
She urged public to patronize the book.
The President of MOBA 1981, Mr. Ray Snowden told the media that the Memoir is one of the means of highlighting the Mfantsipim story, aspirations and the journey so far.
He added it is also a platform to help rescue the dwindling academic prowess and reputation of the school.
The Chairman of the occasion, Ebusuapayin Capt. Paul Forjor Rtd. of the 73 group Was grateful to 1981 group for excellent work done to lift the image of the school.
The first copy of the book was auctioned for GHS 200,000 and was bought by Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, CEO of Engineers and Planners.
