The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region has officially commenced the vetting process for aspiring candidates in anticipation of the upcoming parliamentary election scheduled for December 2nd.
A total of 33 individuals from 10 constituencies who successfully submitted their forms are undergoing the vetting procedure that started on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, and will end on Thursday, November 16, 2023.
Out of the 15 constituencies in the Upper East Region, the NPP currently occupies only the Binduri seat, with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) occupying the remaining 14.
Before the vetting process today, 3 aspirants from the Bolgatanga East, Pusiga, and Builsa North constituencies were confirmed as parliamentary candidates by popular acclamation. This was after the regional vetting committee declared them as the only candidates who picked and submitted nomination forms after the close of nominations on August 10, 2023.
Peter Ayimbisa, the Upper East Regional Communications Director for the NPP, explained that the vetting process for the Bawku constituency is put on hold due to disturbances in the area.
According to Ayimbisa, the vetting was conducted based on established criteria to ensure that the selected candidates possess the qualities and commitment necessary to win the seats for the party.
Key considerations, he said, included competence and dedication to service.
The first day of the vetting exercise ended successfully with candidates balloting for positions on the ballot sheet.
