A seven-unit classroom block for kindergarten pupils at Abuakwa R/C Basic School in the Atwima Nwabiagya municipality of the Ashanti Region has been burnt down.
This has disrupted teaching and learning in the school.
The fire reportedly started between the hours of 8 pm and 9 pm on Thursday, December 14, 2023, burning the classrooms, learning materials, and desks of the pupils.
Speaking to the assembly member of the area, Kusi Boateng, he indicated that two fire tenders came through to put out the fire after he placed a call to the Ghana National Fire Service.
He further said that, on Friday, December 15, 2023, the kindergarten pupils were merged with primary one pupils in their classrooms to prevent them from loitering around.
The assembly member, who doubles as the deputy municipal NADMO director, also mentioned that he has reported the incident to the Municipal Chief Executive and the Regional Minister and is looking forward to a quick response to the incident.
The cause of the fire, according to the assembly member, is not known.
He, however, disclosed that investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of the fire outbreak.
