The National Council of Elders of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) is seeking a constitutional interpretation of the party’s constitution regarding the removal of all national executives of the party.
Some disgruntled members of the party passed a vote of no confidence on the entire national executives on Tuesday, leading to their removal from office.
Addressing a press conference in Accra, Vice Chairman of the CPP Council of Elders, Christian Yao Zigah, says Nana Akosua Sarpong Ankomakoma still remains the Chairperson of the CPP.
“I am here to defend Nana Akosua Sarpong Ankomakoma; she is still the chairperson and leader of this party. Since it did not go through the normal procedure and was like a coup attempt, we don’t accept it in the CPP. We will make sure that the court decides and interprets the CPP constitution for the whole world to know that we violated our constitution in the first place.”
Members of the CPP from various parts of the country petitioned the NEC to compel all national executives of the Nkrumahist party to either voluntarily resign or be removed over their alleged incompetence during the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Kumasi on Tuesday, December 5.
A vote of no confidence was subsequently passed on all of its national executives, leading to a significant misunderstanding during the meeting.
The General Secretary of the CPP, Nana Yaa Jantuah, and a few others have already announced their resignations.
