The National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) is reiterating the importance of introducing partisanship in local government elections, aligning with the perspectives of political scientists who advocate for the politicization of these elections.
NALAG believes that adopting a partisan approach could bolster civic engagement and generate increased interest among the populace.
In an interview with Citi News, Nana Eric Prempeh, the President of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana, underscored the organization’s position on the politicization of local government elections.
“NALAG remains steadfast in advocating for the politicization of district assembly elections. As an association, we continue to endorse this perspective. The elections should be inherently political, and we urge the government and Parliament to reconsider their stance. Regardless of our preferences, district-level elections are inherently political, a reality that pervades every aspect, even if not explicitly acknowledged,” emphasized Nana Eric Prempeh.
