The Ghana Hotels Association is unhappy with the removal of Dr. Mohammed Awal as the Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture in the recent ministerial reshuffle by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The association expressed dissatisfaction with the move, asserting that Dr. Awal had performed creditably well during his three-year tenure.
During the ministerial reshuffle by President Akufo-Addo on February 14, the Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture was relieved of his duties, affecting the other 12 current ministers of state, including 10 cabinet ministers and two regional ministers. Dr. Mohammed Awal is replaced by Andrew Egyapa Mercer, the Member of Parliament for Sekondi in the Western Region.
In an interview with Citi News, the President of the Ghana Hotels Association, Dr. Edward Ackah-Nyamike, indicated that some challenges may arise in the sector due to the sudden change in leadership.
“Before the President appoints a Minister, I believe that a lot of consideration should have gone into the decision to ensure that you’re putting somebody there who is able to work. In the past seven years, we’ve changed about four ministers, so where’s the continuity in terms of vision, in terms of policy, and all that? I find this problematic.”
