The Coalition of La Associations (COLA) has expressed disagreement with the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) regarding the denial of releasing land to the La Traditional Council, labelling it as “unfortunate and misleading.”
In September 2023, the GAF refuted claims of relinquishing a portion of the Burma Camp land to the La Traditional Council.
This was in response to media reports suggesting that the government had allocated 114 acres of Burma Camp land to the Council for development.
The GAF, in a statement issued on September 27, 2023, acknowledged ongoing discussions by a committee established by the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources to address the land issue.
However, it clarified that it had not received any directives from the Ministry of Defence to release the land to the La Traditional Council.
COLA, in a statement sighted by Citi News on Wednesday, March 13, considered the GAF’s release “as unfortunate and misleading in all material aspects.”
It further added, “It is the expectation of COLA that the Ghana Armed Forces will act in fairness and in accordance with the law and respect the rights of the La Stool for peaceful co-existence, since any action contrary to this would be unlawful, illegal, and will be a recipe for chaos.”
