Mustapha Ussif, the Minister of Youth and Sports, has revealed that Accra has been crowned as the African city for Sports by the African Union (AU).
He says other African sports confederations had also started sending requests to the country to host their various championship that they want to organise.
This follows Ghana’s successful organisation and hosting of the 13th African Games (ACCRA 2023), a grand event that unfolded across multiple sporting venues in Accra and Cape Coast.
In an interview on Friday, Mr Ussif said, “Various African sports confederations have started sending requests to us to host their various championship that they want to organize. The AU itself has now declared Accra as the African city for Sports until Egypt takes over in 2027 with the African Games.”
The Sports Minister radiated pride and excitement about the successful execution of the games, expressing his joy over his contribution to this landmark event.
“I’m so excited, and I feel proud that I’ve also contributed during my time as a Sports Minister. Hosting the games successfully, getting all these five thousand athletes here to compete and departing the shores of Ghana without any problem.”
“This is unique, and I’m so happy that I was able to achieve this. Additionally, Team Ghana participated successfully in the best-ever African games and it is something that I’m so proud of,” he stated.
