The Tema Youth Association has condemned the act of brutality, demanding an impartial national probe into the incident that occurred during the Kpelejoo festival.
On the evening of Friday, April 12, 2024, a conflict broke out between the youth of Tema New Town and naval personnel, leading to the unfortunate loss of two lives.
This incident occurred during a street procession held by the youth as part of the annual Kplejoo festival. Upon reaching the street adjacent to the Eastern Naval Command, tensions rose, resulting in a clash between the youth and the naval officers on duty.

We demand a thorough and impartial national probe into the circumstances surrounding this incident to uncover the truth and hold those responsible fully accountable for their actions. No one should be above the law. especially those entrusted with the duty to protect and serve the people.

It is imperative that the rule of law is upheld, and that the rights and safety of all citizens are respected and protected at all times.”
The Association also urged stakeholders, including government officials, law enforcement agencies, and civil society organizations, to join their efforts in seeking justice for the victims.
“We will not rest until justice is served and the memory of those lost is honoured.”

GAF said that three navy personnel onboard the vehicle suffered severe injuries and were taken to the Tema Naval Base Medical Centre for treatment.
