Residents of Nakpali in the Zabzugu district of the Northern Region have called on stakeholders for assistance following the devastating rainstorm that struck them on Monday.
The rainstorm, the second in two weeks, destroyed about 40 houses, leaving nearly two hundred people homeless.
Speaking to Citi News, the Assembly member of the Limam Fong electoral area, Suleiman Yussif, stated that they are yet to receive support from authorities.
“We reported the case to the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), it’s only the owners of the houses they are trying to reroof their houses. Some can afford it, but others cannot. No NGO has come to our aid, so we look forward to hearing from NADMO. They say they have submitted a report, so we are waiting to hear from them.”
Meanwhile, the District Director of the NADMO in the Zabzugu District, Moro Nuhu Nana mentioned to Citi News that his office had visited the residents to assess the situation.
He also added that a report has been submitted to the relevant authorities, and they are awaiting feedback on the next steps.
“We gathered data and did an estimate of the cost involved and submitted it to the region. The cost involved is around 4 billion because there are schools involved. We did estimate based on the constructor view. To be honest with you, there is nothing we have to offer for them now. We have appealed to the region and the national, but they have not said anything up to date.”
