Residents of Benu Nkwanta in the Sunyani East Municipality of the Bono Region are unable to use their National Health Insurance card to access healthcare at the health centre in the community because the facility has not been accredited by the National Health Insurance Authority.
The residents who need healthcare have to travel for about two kilometres to Sunyani.
They are therefore calling on the government for swift action to give accreditation to the health centres in the area to enable them to use their National Health Insurance Scheme card to access healthcare.
The Assembly Member for Benu Nkwanta Electoral Area, Isaac Kologo Salifu spoke to Citi News on the issue.
“It affects us a lot, especially concerning our health care. We were praying to get a health facility here which will assist with minor health issues but due to the lack of health insurance accreditation in this facility, most of us cannot access the healthcare here due to financial difficulties and others.
“From here to Sunyani too is expensive, and also the bad nature of our roads, it doesn’t help our situation,” he stated.
