Chairperson of the Convention People’s Party Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankumah says institutional and collective failure should be accounted for the death of the woman who was abandoned by medical officers from the Trauma and Specialist Hospital at Gomoa Ojobi.
Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankumah indicated that a life lost due to the collective failure of institutions must be given critical attention thus calling for measures to be put in place to ensure that institutions are made to work properly.
The chairperson who was speaking after visiting the site where the unidentified woman was dumped by an ambulance indicated that the issue should not be politicized but seen as an opportunity to change the narrative.
“I mean, right now our problem, like I’m saying, has gone beyond institutional failure. It has become a collective failure of the people we ourselves know. And the reason is simply this. I want to quote the current minister, Okoe Boye. I really admired him and I had a lot of respect for him when he made that statement.
“He stated categorically and I heard him, that based on the collection of the NHIS levies across the nation, that if the government was paying those levies to the right department as it’s supposed to be paid. He said that no operation in this country would require payment.”
“At that time, he was the boss of NHIA. Today, he is the minister for health and a member of the cabinet. May I appeal to every Ghanaian? Please make sure your parliamentarian will talk to this minister who has their hearts and said what he said to ensure that nobody pays, that is what happened to this woman where Ankaful Hospital was demanding 9,000 before they took her on when she’s a Ghanaian and she’s practically on NHIS system.”
“Everything you consume has been paid one way or the other, so there’s no justification that any Ghanaian, especially a woman of her age, in the state that she was in, should be left by this. The cash-and-carry system has gone beyond, It’s now, criminal.
The cash and carry system in this country where you must pay cash before you can be treated has now gone beyond criminality because someone has just lost a life. This level of negligence, lack of compassion, lack of care, mismanagement, lack of accountability, and love of everything, is something we should all address. Let’s not discuss this as a political something.”
