The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party, Divine Otoo Agorhom, says the party will approach Eunice Lasi to reconsider her decision to resign from the party and stand as an independent candidate.
Eunice Lasi, the New Patriotic Party’s former parliamentary candidate for the Sege Constituency, announced her resignation from the NPP and declared her intention to contest the Sege seat as an independent candidate in the 2024 elections during a press conference on December 12, 2023, at her campaign office in Sege.
This development has sparked debate considering the upcoming general election in 2024.
Speaking on Eyewitness News, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman for the NPP, Divine Otoo Agorhom, stated the party’s intent to engage her concerning the resignation.
“The game in which we are involved is a game of numbers. So we need everybody. It is unfortunate that at this moment, somebody will say that she is leaving. So behind the scenes, the elders are asked to reconcile with the constituents after the Primaries, of which Sege is one, so they will engage her. If she can reconsider her decision and come back, it’s fine.”
He reiterated that going forward, the party would engage all losing aspirants of the various constituencies to avoid subsequent resignations.
“The elders of the party seek to engage not only Eunice but all other losing aspirants who may not be happy and are considering not staying and working for the party.
Also, the party would be forced to use other means if engagement with Madam Lasi proves futile.”
