In observance of World Oral Health Day, Pepsodent, a prominent oral care brand under Unilever Ghana, is urging Ghanaians to prioritise oral hygiene.
The brand is expressing concern over the low utilisation of dental services, which contributes to oral diseases.
Vera Boadu, Oral Care Manager for Unilever Ghana, emphasised the importance of early dental visits for the detection of oral diseases in an interview with journalists on Wednesday.
She also encouraged the public to adopt their teledentistry initiative.
“It’s quite important for Ghanaians to take their oral care seriously, especially, because, as a country, we tend to wait till issues become a big problem, and then now we go to a dentist. And when we do that, sometimes it might be too late, and the dentist would normally tell us that if the issue had come in earlier, they probably would have been able solve it.”
That’s why we are trying to build a habit of regular dental checkups. After building that habit, early detection of issues will be picked up very, very, very early on before they become big issues. That’s why we try and, educate people, build that habit of trying to visit the dentist,” she stated.
Cecelia Kakrabah Quarshie, President of the Ghana Dental Association, also called on parents to play an active role in their children’s dental care.
“We advocate that parents bring their children to the dental clinic at a very early age. As soon as you see teeth appearing in the mouth of your child, you need to bring them to the dentist,” she said.
