ChannelOne TV, formerly known as Citi TV, has firmly denied recent social media claims alleging its acquisition by prominent New Patriotic Party (NPP) member, Gabby Otchere-Darko.
In an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News, ChannelOne TV/Citi FM’s Managing Director, Samuel Attah-Mensah, addressed the rumours head-on. He clarified that any significant ownership change would be publicly announced by the company itself, not through social media speculation.
Mr Attah-Mensah attributed the rumours to a since-deleted social media post and emphasised that the company ownership remains unchanged.
“What has changed is the trading name and not the company name…Notice Board Limited owns Citi TV and now changed the name to ChannelOne TV. Everything else remains the same, same ownership, same shareholders, directors, etc. And still bears the same relationship with Citi FM. Citi FM remains Citi FM. Nothing changes.”
Shifting focus, Mr Attah-Mensah explained the rationale behind the rebranding. He highlighted the historical competition between Citi FM and Citi TV, impacting their commercial success.
The aim, he said, is to create a more unified brand identity for ChannelOne TV to improve its market position.
The rebranding ceremony, held on Tuesday, June 4th, 2024, at the station’s Tesano studios, marks a new chapter for the media outlet.
ChannelOne TV promises to deliver high-quality content, solidifying its position as a leading source of news, business, and educational programming in Ghana and beyond.
Viewers can expect an enhanced presence, fresh perspectives, an expanded reach, and a continued commitment to excellence.
