As part of efforts to bridge the existing gap between theory, practicals as well as academia the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST, have entered into a partnership with the Project Management Institute-Ghana for enhanced teaching and learning of project management as a programme of study from the undergraduate to master’s levels.
The Vice Chancellor of KNUST, Professor Mrs. Rita Dickson, signed for her institution while the President of Project Management Ghana, Dr. Frank Owusu-Asamoah, signed on behalf of the other PMIG to be ran by the Department of Construction, Technology and Management of the University.
Prof. Mrs. Rita Dickson assured that, KNUST will keep to its part of the MoU to providing high quality training of Project Management students capable of matching the criteria of both local and international market.
A recent survey has revealed that, governments the world over are losing about 100 million dollars of every one billion dollars on physical projects due to unprofessional andunethical practices or incompetence of executioners of projects.
Project Management as a professional programme of study at the tertiary educational level has therefore come in handy to assure both governments and private project owners of value for their investment.
Though in Ghana, it is a relatively new area of study, it is fast gaining popularity among prospective and enrolled students at the V/o: tertiary level.
It is to make the study of Project Management even much popular that the Project Management Institute Ghana is partnering with renowned Ghanaian universities to make available more expertise to enhance both theoretical and practical study of the course.
The ultimate aim is to attract more prospective students to take up the programme which has market value to make the graduates globally competitive to address the canker of graduates’ unemployment.
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST, is the latest and second to enter into partnership with Project Management Institute, Ghana, after a similar Memorandum of Understanding with the GIMPA.
The President of Project Management Ghana, Dr. Frank Owusu-Asamoah, explained that, the ultimate goal of such partnerships is to produce more highly trained professionals guarantee ethical and quality execution of projects and consultancy services to enable government save cost on projects implementation.
