About two thousand kids at Glefe, a predominantly mixed settlement of people from all backgrounds near Dansoman in Accra, were on Easter Monday treated to good meals and fun activities by the Amlalo Charity Foundation.
The initiative, dubbed ‘Operation Feed 1,000 Kids’, exceeded the number, and eventually had some adults in the community joining the kids.
The Foundation provided food, bottled water and drinks for every one present, and also gave out clothes to both the kids and adults.
Considering that it was indeed a day for the kids, they had a much better time playing with bouncy castles, taking part in face paintings and dance competitions.
For a relatively under-privileged community, some of the children were using bouncy castles for the first time, and so the excitement and experience was indeed an unforgettable one for them.
The Founder of Amlalo Charity Foundation, Ing. Bernard Lemawu, a.k.a, Nene Buetey, told citinewsroom.com that the event was a dream come true for him, and the many who supported the course.
According to him, the Foundation was set up to commemorate the 85th birthday of his grandmother, Madam Henrietta Adjoa Amlalo Lamptey, a philanthropist in her own right, who passed on to eternity some six years ago.
Ing. Bernard Lemawu has been involved in several philanthropic initiatives with the sole aim of giving back to society.
The Foundation seeks to provide a platform to inspire, motivate and coordinate a culture of volunteerism in Ghanaians; especially those in the corporate space.
It will thus run programs in this regard in partnership with needy communities and schools.
In all, there were Eighty (80) volunteers from all backgrounds such as engineering, entrepreneurs, and descendants of the late Amlalo Lamptey.
Mr. Lemawu extended his gratitude to the many individuals who contributed to the initiative in diverse ways such as donation of both used and old clothing, and various cash amounts.
