The Ministry of Communication has called for the establishment of more Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training centers in the country as a way to get Ghana to be part of the digital race globally.
According to them, technology is recognized as the main driver of development hence the need for Ghanaian youth to be equipped in ICT.
Speaking at an event to launch the Huawei ICT Training Centre, Deputy Minister for Communications, Vincent Sowah Odortei, intimated that the country will be able to fully have control of the benefits of technology if the needed skills are acquired.
“The set up of this ICT Training Center is crucial because technology is the main driver of development now, skills and competences required to ensure that we are able to fully leverage the benefits of technology which depends largely on the skills such as the kind of progammes Huawei intends to offer in Ghana with regards to competences in ICT technology, cyber security, integration and every aspect of the whole digital internet eco system.”
Mr. Sowah Odortei noted that ICT training centers will assist government to achieve its dream to digitizing the economy.
“The ICT Training Center will support the government’s vision to embark on a full digitization and formalization of the economy. So it is important that such training programmes and institutions are properly established to equip our young people with the skills that are required to ensure that we are not left out in this technology revolution”.
Huawei Ghana MD, Mr. Tommy Zhou, said Huawei is launching this platform to demonstrate that young ICT talents in Ghana have the potential to become world-class experts.
“Today, Huawei is reiterating our commitment to working even more closely with partners across the continent to better equip the next generation of technology leaders. By enhancing industry-academic cooperation, Huawei as an international ICT Company, hopes to make their contribution to the ICT development in Ghana to pave way to achieving a Smart Ghana.”
The training, which will run from the 3rd to 19th of December, 2018, will seek to develop Ghana’s ICT Talent pool while giving industry the opportunity to enhance and polish their ICT skills to meet the increasing domestic and global demand.
The first class will commence with 21 trainees from Huawei’s local partners in Ghana including MTN Ghana, Vodafone Ghana, AirtelTigo Ghana, IPMC and National Identification Authority (NIA).
The trainees will be taking the IP (Internet Protocol) HCNP (Huawei Certified Network Professional) Certification course which will see them become certified Huawei IP HCNP professional.
